Amy Rawstron

Violinist Amy Rawstron joined the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Second Violin in September of 1990 and since 2022 concurrently serves as Principal Second Violin of The Venice Symphony (FL).

A native of Massachusetts, Amy’s artistry as an orchestra and chamber musician places her in demand with many leading orchestras and ensembles on both modern and historical violins.

In recent seasons she has appeared frequently with Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, Connecticut Early Music Festival, the Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms Society, Purcell Society of Boston, and the South Florida Symphony under such luminaries as Leonard Slatkin, Larry Rachleff, Robert Spano, Vaclav Luks, Raphaël Pichon, Bramwell Tovey, Nicholas McGegan and Pinchas Zukerman.

In addition to appearances with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Chicago’s Baroque Band, Arcadia Players Baroque Ensemble, Springfield Symphony, Symphony New Hampshire and Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Amy has performed with popular artists, Josh Groban, Lindsey Stirling, Page and Plant, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Celtic Woman, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin and Jethro Tull among many others.

Fulfilling the promise of earlier years as a member of the Young Artists program in Boston and Amy later became Concertmaster of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. Studying with Robert Koff and Roman Totenberg, she spent summers in intensive chamber music and orchestral programs at Apple Hill and Kneisel Hall. Amy graduated from Walnut Hill School for the Arts, before moving to New York City to attend Mannes College of Music where her teachers included Isadore Cohen, Sally Thomas and Lewis Kaplan, along with further study at Meadowmount School of Music, Spoleto Festival USA and the National Repertory Orchestra.

Amy is also an alumnus of the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival
