
A native of Philadelphia and based in Boston, violist Rebecca Hallowell can be heard regularly with the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Portland Symphony, and on baroque viola with Portland Bach Experience, Classical Uprising, Opera Neo, and Cantata Singers. She is a strong proponent of the music of living composers, performing with such ensembles as the Callithumpian Consort, Sound Icon, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and Collage New Music. In addition to her concert career, she is executive director of Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP), a concert series and seminar for the performance of contemporary classical music, and produces events and departmental programs for the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and went on to receive her Master of Music from Boston University College of Fine Arts.
